The Selection Process

Venture applicants will be selected following presentations to the Founders Group.

Curriculum

The core of the SCAPE Program is an intensive 6 month program which will teach you the science of startups.  You will learn customer oriented product development, product marketing operations and finance from experienced executive experts.  Special learning opportunities will match the startups with entrepreneurs from the community who will visit SCAPE to share their experiences and knowhow.

During the 6 month program, each venture will work to complete the process milestone steps on a rigorous schedule with support at each step. Each venture will be assigned specific milestones, but the general milestones use the “Lean Startup” model and address the key issues that will need to be addressed in the Effective Investor Presentation and will be used by the Venture in crafting their presentation for “pitch day” or the final presentation before “graduating” from the program.

Throughout each program educational forums, such as Understanding and Using Financial Statements and Understanding the Structure and Terms of Equity Financing, will be held and participated in by the ventures. The ventures will also have access (free) to standardized Incorporation documents and financial projection modeling software.

Seed Funding

Each Venture is eligible for funding during and after the SCAPE program.

Ventures will not pay any fees for office space or mentoring; the awards are to be used for startup requirements including corporate formation, patent filing, website development, product development, and professional services such as accounting or market research.

Office Space

The ventures will be housed together, in SCAPE provided offices at 1211 Main Ave #1 in Durango, Colorado.  Startup ventures will be expected to keep regular office hours in the SCAPE facility.

Community Partner Resources

SCAPE will work with existing resources like the Southwest Colorado SBDC and their Business Advisor Network (BAN), CEO Network (a peer network group comprised of CEO’s from high growth companies), and the Durango Tech Group to meet the specific needs of the ventures as they progress through the program. In addition to these resources, other “subject matter experts” will be brought in as required.

Pitch Day

Several presentations will be made by the ventures during the SCAPE program, culminating with pitch day at the end of the six months. SCAPE will work to help develop follow-on funding sources and work with the ventures to secure financing.

Outcomes

The program is designed to meet SCAPE’s vision to create more high growth, job creating ventures by fully preparing them to be “market and investor ready”, increasing their chances to be successful growing companies in Southwest Colorado
