Sarah Jane Maxted
Ms. Maxted sits on the Advisory Council for Chain Reaction Innovation and the Board for Forge Mass. She serves as a Senior Advisor to Greentown Labs as well as to the Chief Scientist at the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life at the New England Aquarium. She also sits on the Work Economic Forum Global Future Council on Innovation Ecosystems. At any given time, Ms. Maxted mentors over a dozen start-ups, primarily in the energy, sustainability and cleantech sectors. She serves on several committees including the Duke Women’s Forum. She holds a BA from Duke University where she double majored in Public Policy Studies & Cultural Anthropology, and minored in Dance. She’s continued coursework at Harvard.
Ms. Maxted works with climate organizations from start-ups to utilities to global philanthropic organizations. Currently, she is helping lead Deloitte's public sector climate change practice. Previously, as a Principal at ADL Ventures, Ms. Maxted focused on energy venture development. She also helped run a Task Force on the Work of the Future for the President of MIT and recently served as Director of Strategic Initiatives at MIT’s spin-out The Engine, a venture capital fund focused on advanced tough tech, breakthrough technology. Ms. Maxted directed and scaled the MIT Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program across 40+ global regions to develop their regional innovation ecosystems.
Ms. Maxted served in President Obama’s Administration at the United States Department of Energy (U.S. DOE) as Special Assistant to Secretary Dr. Steven Chu and was detailed to the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to manage a tech transfer and commercialization portfolio. Earlier in her career, she also worked for former MA-Senator John Kerry under his Senior Advisor for Energy.
Currently, Ms. Maxted sit on the Advisory Council for Chain Reaction Innovation and the Boards for Forge Mass and Exponential Impact. She has also served as Senior Advisor to several climate organizations including Greentown Labs, Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life at the New England Aquarium, and LA Cleantech Incubator. Ms. Maxted graduated from Duke University with continued coursework at Harvard, and she is from Durango, Colorado.
