Sasquatch Expedition Campers

Meet SCAPE 2022 Cohort Company, Sasquatch Expedition Campers. Headquartered in the San Juan Mountains, this team is on a journey to design a camp trailer capable of traversing backcountry terrain, giving more people access to the full backcountry experience.

Q: What’s your name, title, business?

A: Sasquatch Expedition Camper, www.sasquatch-campers.com

Co-founders:

Kass Kremer, Business Development and Operations (full time)

Daryl Magner, Product Development and Production (full time)

Beth Kremer, Marketing (part time)

Q: What does your business do?

A: Sasquatch Expedition Campers designs and builds camp trailers capable of accessing remote, rugged terrain. Our products remove the boundaries set by traditional camp trailers, enabling customers to set up camp deep in the backcountry and explore further.

Three models of camp trailers are set to launch this Spring. Two of which will have sleeping quarters and the third is more compact, designed to haul cargo in the cab and a rooftop tent can serve as the sleeping quarters.

Q: Tell us about your entrepreneurial journey.

A: Kass, Daryl and Beth met and worked together as Engineers in California in 2010, shortly after that Kass and Beth got married and moved away, and Daryl patented technology he developed and began consulting internationally.  Over the following 10 years, Kass, Daryl and Beth worked on projects all over the world, and in 2020, during the hieght of COVID, met up for a camping trip in Silverton, spending the day driving around the mountains.

That night they camped in the backcountry, positioned at a spot with a vantage point at the entrance of a network of backcountry trails. As they cooked dinner, they watched everyone funnel out of the mountains back to town. They were the only ones left, and it surprised them how much of the experience people were missing out on; no sunset, no stars or cooking breakfast to a backcountry sunrise.

Weeks later, Kass and Daryl set out on a journey to design a camp trailer capable of traversing backcountry terrain, giving more people access to the full backcountry experience.

Q: What was the most powerful lesson you learned on this journey?

A: Developing a product takes time. We wanted to introduce something that met high quality standards and gave a great customer experience. This process took well over a year and multiple design-test-improve iterations. We found that having a support network was instrumental to success. For us, this support came from family, friends, the Silverton community and our product testers.

Q: Why did you apply for the SCAPE Program?

A: SCAPE has indisputably proven itself as the best resource for entrepreneurs in Southwest Colorado by providing startups with a supportive network, resources for growth, and guidance from those who have been successful in their own entrepreneurial journey. We acknowledge that we still have a lot to learn and believe SCAPE provides a platform for us to ask questions and request feedback.  We hope to learn as much as we can from SCAPE’s mentorship and build a lasting company that will produce great products and further develop the local economy.

Q: What companies inspire you the most (local, national, worldwide)?
