Q: What does your business do?
A: TrueFly Supply is a fly fishing subscription service focusing on quality, education, and conservation. Our mission statement is: We believe that every angler should have the opportunity to catch trophy fish on a fly rod. That is why we are making the art of fly fishing more accessible through quality craftsmanship, education, and conservation.
Talos Outdoors is an outdoor sporting goods manufacturing company that specializes in innovative product development of gear storage and recreational equipment.
Q: Tell us about your entrepreneurial journey.
A: It has been a long journey with many lesson learned, mostly good. In the beginning we wanted to develop the business without leveraging debt and without the aid of seed money. This has forced us to find new and innovative strategies to facilitate growth and stay competitive in a tight market. We have enjoyed the journey and grown in our personal lives as a result of this journey. It has been many long hours, late nights, and weekends but we have been dedicated to putting out a product that adheres to our values and quality standards. We love seeing our products in use. We have built a community by establishing relationships with our customers, and we think it’s pretty cool when our customers reach out to us on social media with pictures of their adventures that in a small way we were a part of.
Q: What was the most powerful lesson you learned on this journey?
A: We have found out that its okay to ask for help, and that we don’t have to learn everything the hard way. We are ready to reach the next level of growth and we have come to the conclusion that we may need help to get there.
Q: Why did you apply for the SCAPE Program?
A: We applied in order to learn from mentors and really be that best that we can possibly be. We are lifelong learners and we wanted to be involved in SCAPE in order to expand our knowledge, network, and help us grow a sustainable business.
Q: What companies inspire you the most (local, national, worldwide)?
A: Inspiring companies to us are YETI, Tesla and SpaceX for their ingenuity and how they are running their businesses. Innovation at these companies is constant and really inspires us to do the same in our lives and businesses.
Q: What do you love most about the Four Corners?
A: The outdoors and people in the Four Corners are truly amazing. Having a brand in the outdoors and being in an area with really great fly fishing water all around is a blessing. There are also so many great people that live here and it has been fun getting to these unique individuals. Along with being absolutely beautiful area, the ancient heritage is an amazing experience to learn about.
