Bob Pensec

Bob Pensec was born October 3, 1942, the only child of John and Celia Pensec, in Hackensack, New Jersey. Most of his childhood was spent just across the bridge from Manhattan in Lodi, New Jersey. Later, his father, a Produce Broker, accepted job transfers which moved the family first to Charlotte, North Carolina and then Roanoke, Virginia where Bob lived until leaving for college.

Education and Work History

Graduated in 1964 from William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia with a B.A. in Business. Was recruited from William and Mary by General Motors and worked at Delco Remy Division of G.M. in Anderson from 1964 until 1969, holding various positions in Ordering and Purchasing. Left Delco Remy in 1969 to work for Anderson Laundry and helped start AIAC for the Ballinger family. Became acquainted with Floyd Monteith who owned Carbide Grinding Company and was looking for someone to take over the business when he retired. In 1970, made an investment in Carbide Grinding and became the business partner of Mr. Monteith. In 1975, completed the transaction to buy the remainder of stock from Monteith, making Bob President of the company. That same year he established a new partnership with Jerry Stires, who is currently Vice President of Carbide Grinding and the two are still the only owners of Carbide stock.

Bob resides in Anderson and has been married for 26 years to his wife, Susan. He is the father of two children Michelle Salyers and Rob Pensec and grandfather to three grandchildren — Eleni, Jacob, and Max Salyers.
